COMMISSIONS

We wanted a new sculpture to complement an expansion of our garden, and thinking an owl would be appropriate we floated the idea to Kate. She immediately embraced and researched the project with enthusiasm, despite not having previously sculpted an owl, and with our active involvement in the design along the way she produced the most stunning life-size barn owl approaching a landing spot. She also proposed and created a brilliant installation to present it to best effect. A thoroughly successful, rewarding and enjoyable project.

How the commissioning process works

Contact Kate with your idea, either send some photos if you have any or I can create a design based on your idea.

Size, finished material and timeline will be discussed and then Kate will then work out a price and provide you with a quote.

(Please note that apart from the size, intricacies of the piece and the final material finish there is also whether the sculpture is a one-off-piece or if you are happy for me to sell further editions which will then bring the cost of production down as the moulding cost will be split across the editions. I usually do 25 editions of each sculpture but this can be discussed at the time.) Read More

Kate’s work is mostly finished as cast resin pieces but lost wax cast metal is also an option, however, it is a much more expensive process but Kate is happy to quote for both.

Once the quote has been accepted a 50% deposit will be charged. You will be sent photos of the work – showing its progress – and Kate is happy to take calls if there are any queries along the way.

When the modelling work is complete Kate will contact you and either arrange for you to come and see the work (or if that is not possible) will send photographs from all angles for your acceptance. Once you are happy with the piece, the modelled work will be moulded, cast and finished. (approximately a further 10 weeks)

To give some idea from start to finish and depending on current schedules, an average tabletop sized sculpture approx 40cm x 40cm would take around 20 weeks – start to finish.

Please don’t feel that you can only contact Kate to create animal sculptures. As you can see here she works on all sorts of subjects, so let’s discuss your ideas…
